NEW DELHI: The evasive response from National Informatics Centre and the Information Technology ministry to an RTI asking, “who developed Aarogya Setu app,” drew sharp reactions from digital rights activists and politicians. On Wednesday, #AarogyaSetuApp was one of the top trends in India, with Twitter users questioning its origin. “This app was made voluntary-mandatory. It has been downloaded by over 150 million Indians, but the government says it has no idea who developed it. This is a complete abdication of responsibility,” RTI activist Saurav Das, who had filed an appeal with the CIC about the possible “breach of data” of Aarogya Setu users, told TOI on phone. “I approached the CIC because there is a potential breach of data involved. Under the Aarogya Setu protocol the NIC and IT ministry are responsible for the data that the app collects. But if they don’t have an answer about who created the app, the data of millions of Indians is at risk,” Das said
